SUMMER CAMPS

We are excited to offer CV summer camps for six weeks during the summer of 2024!

DAILY CAMP HOURS: Most camps begin at 9 am and end at 1 pm. Rock Band Camp and History of Atlanta have longer hours so please see their descriptions for details.

BEFORE & AFTER CARE: Before care is available from 8-9 am for $55/week, and after care is from 1-5 pm for $245/wk.

Registration is only open to current CV families. Cancellations will not be accepted after May 3, 2024. On May 3, 2024 you will receive an invoice via email from FACTS with a link to make your payment. No refunds will be processed after May 3, 2024.

WEEK 1: JUNE 3-7

  • Camp Cliff Valley is a time to enjoy open-ended fun led by our own Cliff Valley staff. Campers will discover and uncover knowledge through experiences including fine and gross motor activities, art explorations, music and movement and collaborative games. Campers will enjoy a new theme each week. Creativity will be abundant through tactile and interactive play. Please dress your child in appropriate clothing for messy fun! Campers should be 3 by June 1st.

  • Come one, come all to game night all day long! Do you love learning new board and card games? We do, too! From cooperative strategy games to competitive fast paced card games, we’ll play them all! So get your Get Out of Jail Free card and come play!

  • Campers will explore the process of printmaking to create bookmarks, and stamps, and use found objects to create a variety of different textural effects. Students will also learn about the ancient art of Gyotaku or “Japanese Fish Rubbing”. Students will work with gelli plates and explore relief printing, collagraph, and monoprint processes.

  • Experienced, Orton-Gillingham trained teachers will provide targeted instruction to help rising 1st - 3rd graders develop reading, phonics, spelling, and writing skills. The camp is designed for struggling readers, but students do not need a diagnosis of dyslexia to attend. A teacher recommendation is required. Student teacher ratios for the camp will be 5:1.

  • "Back to the basics" will be the theme for this summer’s volleyball camp. We will learn and reinforce correct passing and serving techniques and spend time doing drills to solidify our techniques. Then, we’ll set up the nets and have some fun in a scrimmage. Bring a good attitude and a willingness to learn. This camp is appropriate for all levels. See you out on the court!

  • Explore our “Empire State of the South” and learn about its history through daily field trips around Atlanta.

    Hop on the Atlanta Trolley tour to start the week with a 90-minute narrated tour to get a general overview of our interesting city. Then, the group will experience all of the interactive and enlightening exhibits that the Atlanta History Center has to offer, including the Swan Coach House and the Cyclorama. We will take a trip to the Delta Flight Museum and Chick-fil-a headquarters, and complete a Clue Town scavenger hunt competition.

    Finally, we will cap it all off with a tour of the King Center and Sweet Auburn, exploring how our city was a major center for the Civil Rights Movement. Each day, we will enjoy lunch in one of Atlanta’s picturesque parks, which each hold history of their own. Let’s experience these local wonders together!

    *Note this camp will return to school at 2 pm every day. A detailed schedule will be sent the week before camp starts.

  • Bienvenue les amis! Students will explore the culture and language of France with fun art projects, delicious food, dance, and games in preparation for the Summer 2024 Paris Olympics.

  • Oh snap, it’s time to talk to the hand and say, “Booyah” with all things 90s! Think sand art, Lisa Frank stickers, friendship bracelets, and fortune tellers! We’re throwing it back to the time between giant computers and smartphones with some good old fashioned 90’s fun! Whether you’re looking to find your long lost twin at camp and learn a secret handshake, or you’re interested in finally learning how to do the Cat’s Cradle, this is the camp for you!

  • The camp will be structured as a team camp. Campers will work on the offensive and defensive skills in the morning and divide into teams that will compete together in a series of round robin games after lunch. Our goal is to teach fundamentals and skills that can be used in a game setting. As always this is a camp that holds good sportsmanship as a number one expectation!

  • Crime Scene Investigators Wanted! See how math and science combine to give investigators the skills they need to solve some of the toughest questions. Come join us and learn about the methods, tools, and investigative techniques that CSI agents use to solve mysteries. We'll learn how to identify, collect, and preserve crime scene evidence by exploring fingerprinting techniques, casts and impressions, trace evidence and more.

  • Discover the many awesome day hikes around the Atlanta area. We choose different hiking locations every summer so join us as we explore the trails we’ve selected for 2024. We'll also spend a day rock climbing indoors at Stone Summit. Campers should come wearing weather-appropriate clothing and shoes suitable for walking longer distances over uneven terrain. Campers are expected to carry their own day packs with plenty of water and a lunch we will eat on the trail. In the event of severe weather, indoor activities will involve hands-on outdoor skills, sports, and games on site at Cliff Valley.

  • If you’re a musician that’s interested in learning about music creation, recording, production, and all the ways we utilize music technology at Cliff Valley, don’t miss Music Tech Camp! We will be working on creating music from scratch on our own personal devices, exploring techniques to make it stand out from the crowd, and introducing methods of polishing it up and making it sound “radio ready”! By the time the week’s over, you’ll have an absolute bop of a track ready to share with your friends, family, and even the world!

  • It’s time to get ready for Kindergarten! A balance of learning, playing and following the daily routine will help prepare your child for the Kindergarten year to come. Campers will gain awareness and confidence for when they enter the classroom the first weeks of school. They also will have a chance to meet new friends and make connections that will carry over into the school year.

  • What do a mountain bluebird, a flame bowerbird, and a quetzal all have in common? They are some of the world's most beautifully plumaged birds, of course! Even though beauty is in the eye of the beholder, join us as we spend this week looking at, making predictions about, and solidifying our love for these feathered flyers through art and other activities.

  • Come spend the week playing a variety of indoor and outdoor games ranging from PE class and sports club favorites to classic sports - some with a fun new twist! Come prepared to learn, laugh, run, show good sportsmanship and have a great time!

  • CV Techwise focuses on developing computer skills for younger students that they will use in their classrooms to assist teachers and students. They'll practice typing skills, learn how to use Google programs for word processing and presentations, and hone simple online research skills. Throughout the week campers will also have the opportunity to learn to use Scratch Programming and Code.org. Students who successfully complete the course will become certified members of the CV Techwise team!

  • Campers will develop skills in acting, vocals, dance and theatrical design as they explore current and classic Broadway shows. The week will end with a classroom showcase for family and friends.

  • Do you want to run sound and lights at Cliff Valley events? Interested in theater tech, band setup, or just think gaffer’s tape sounds like loads of fun? Join the AV Club Camp! We’ll explore the physics of light and sound, how to make things sound and look good on a stage, and how to get the most out of a band’s live performance. When you’re done, you’ll be fully qualified to run sound and lights for school assemblies, theater productions, and small band setups.

  • Do you have an interest in learning more about what people eat in other countries? Do you enjoy trying new and exciting foods? How about actually learning to cook them and sharing them with others? In Global Cuisine camp 6th-8th grade students will take a trip on Monday to Your Dekalb Farmers Market to shop and then, during the week, prepare and eat meals from different cuisines. This will be an excellent opportunity to hone kitchen skills and develop independence as a chef!

WEEK 4: JUNE 24-28

  • Part nature camp, part garden camp and part sleepaway (without the sleepaway!) camp. Come enjoy learning outdoor skills and all about what’s growing around Cliff Valley during the summer as we explore nature in the classroom, in the CV garden and on the nature trail!

We have chosen a series of novel, innovative titles encompassing both “single session” play times as well as immersive narrative stories that will unfold throughout our week together.   • Welcome to the 2024 CV Summer Olympics! In anticipation of the July Paris games, join Dan and Dave for some individual and team sports that take place during the Olympics (basketball, soccer, handball, relays and more) as well as some CV student favorites. It will be an entertaining week of fun, friendly competition and gold medals!

  • Grab your digital camera and come join the fun! Learn some of the basics of digital photography. Students will explore post processing, and experiment with light, subject, and composition to create and tell different stories through images. Have fun capturing moments around Cliff Valley and practicing what you learn at home. It's a snap!

    *Equipment needed: A DSLR camera and a computer are required for this camp. No phone cameras. Students should have any necessary cables or converters to transfer pictures to their computers. Students may also find their camera manual to be useful.

WEEK 5: JULY 8-12

  • Beanstalks, Three Bears, and the Big Bad Wolf! Let’s get creative and have some fun with classic and modern fairy tales. We’ll read stories both familiar and new, write our own stories, build castles, create other fairy tale inspired crafts and enjoy several imaginative play activities. Get ready for princesses, knights, dragons, pirates, mythical animals and more!

  • There are so many ways to turn a simple piece of paper into a sculptural work of art! Come to the paper party this summer and have fun experimenting with color and texture to create handmade paper, as well as exploring sculptural paper projects such as origami, iris folding, paper mâché, quilling, paper weaving and more!

  • Put me in, coach! Are you interested in learning more about how to play Ultimate? This camp will be a great opportunity for new and returning players to hone their frisbee skills. We will work on fundamentals and emphasize the concept known as the "Spirit of the Game", which teaches students how to communicate and advocate for themselves and their teammates. This will be an active and action-packed camp!

  • Using entertaining in-person and computer based simulations (please bring a laptop,) classic board games, and an in-camp economy, this camp will equip campers with the knowledge necessary to become money-smart young adults and highlight the everyday math concepts that can lead anybody to fabulous wealth!

  • Rock Band Camp is for musicians who have experience on their instrument, including 1 year of private lessons, stage experience, or particular aptitude for an instrument. Campers will be put into bands, and will spend the week learning songs with the support of an instructor. They work together with their band to create a short set of songs for a performance at the end of the week. This show will take place on Friday evening, so bring your family and friends and get ready to rock out!

WEEK 6: JULY 15-19

Mathematics helps us to understand and describe the natural world and can be seen throughout nature in incredible ways. Come join us as we explore the numerous connections between math and nature, from the various occurrences of Fibonacci's spiral and the golden ratio to the stunning variety of symmetry and the many patterns that make up our universe!

  • Whether you have an existing love of speedy race cars or you're just interested in learning about how people can travel 200 mph through twists and turns, this camp will be sure to excite you! Join us for a week as we create race circuits, learn about the existing teams and drivers, and explore the countries of current circuits. This camp is for anyone who loves to build and would like to research and investigate the history of Formula 1!

  • Learn the basic techniques of jewelry fabrication and metalsmithing! Campers will explore different techniques for working with metal sheet and wire, such as shaping and forming, stamping, wire wrapping, cold connections, and adding texture with tools. Students will use these techniques to create their choice of forms such as pendants, earrings, bracelets, rings, keychains, and more. Campers will also learn safe handling of materials and safe use of tools such as pliers, hammers, and various cutting tools.
